PC >> Building my Ultimate PC

Having decided to sell my VAIO and return to desktop, I set out to build my ultimate PC (October 2007).

My "wants" were as follows:

  • Aluminium small form factor (SFF) case;
  • Dual-core processor;
  • 2GB or more RAM;
  • 500GB hard drive;
  • ultra-quiet.

The final spec was:

  • SilverStone 'SUGO' Evolution SFF case (black aluminium with window);
  • ASUS M2NPV-VM motherboard;
  • 520W Corsair PSU;
  • AMD Athlon 64 5000+ (Brisbane core);
  • 2 x 1GB Crucial Ballistix RAM;
  • 2 x 250GB Seagate SATAII hard drives (in RAID0 array);
  • SilverStone NT06-Lite heatsink (fanless);
  • Zalman fanless Northbridge cooler;
  • Windows Vista Home Premium.

Later "upgrades" were:

  • Upgrade (!) from Windows Vista to XP Professional;
  • Addition of an MSI 8600GT graphics card to replace the onboard graphics.

Further information about the build is to follow!
