PC >> Building my Ultimate PC
Having decided to sell my VAIO and return to desktop, I set out to build my ultimate PC (October 2007).
My "wants" were as follows:
- Aluminium small form factor (SFF) case;
- Dual-core processor;
- 2GB or more RAM;
- 500GB hard drive;
- ultra-quiet.
The final spec was:
- SilverStone 'SUGO' Evolution SFF case (black aluminium with window);
- ASUS M2NPV-VM motherboard;
- 520W Corsair PSU;
- AMD Athlon 64 5000+ (Brisbane core);
- 2 x 1GB Crucial Ballistix RAM;
- 2 x 250GB Seagate SATAII hard drives (in RAID0 array);
- SilverStone NT06-Lite heatsink (fanless);
- Zalman fanless Northbridge cooler;
- Windows Vista Home Premium.

Later "upgrades" were:
- Upgrade (!) from Windows Vista to XP Professional;
- Addition of an MSI 8600GT graphics card to replace the onboard graphics.
